Reverting PressProxy changes

Here is the step-by-step process to revert all changes made by PressProxy, depending on whether you had a blog before.

You had a blog before moving to PressProxy

This is the reverse process of transferring your blog to PressProxy.

Remove redirects (Cloudflare)

  • Log into your Cloudflare dashboard, then open your website’s overview.
  • Open Rules in the sidebar, then Redirect Rules.
  • Find the rule PressProxy – old blog redirects, click the three dots on the right, and then delete.

Review your old blog

If your old blog is still online and no changes were made to the new blog after the transfer to PressProxy, there is nothing for you to do but review that it still works after you’ve removed the redirects.

If you have deleted the old blog (or the new one had major changes), you need to find a new host and transfer the existing blog from PressProxy. The process is the same as moving to PressProxy, where we recommend the plugin Backup Migration. Before restoring, delete the mu-plugins folder in wp-content in your backup (or on your new host through FTP).

Remove PressProxy DNS records (Cloudflare)

  • Go back to Cloudflare and open your website’s DNS records.
  • Remove the record:
CNAME - awp - windy.pressproxy.io

Click on Edit and then Delete button.

Remove PressProxy Workers and API token (Cloudflare)

  • Go to Cloudflare and Click the profile icon in the top right corner, then My Profile.
  • In the sidebar, click API Tokens.
  • Find the PressProxy token, click the three dots on the right, and then delete.

Return to the Cloudflare dashboard home and click Workers & Pages in the sidebar (this is not on your website’s profile view).

  • In the Overview, find the Worker names pressproxy-blog-{yourdomain}. Click on it.
  • In the top tabs, click Settings, then scroll to the bottom.
  • Click Delete button.

Add redirects (Cloudflare)

If your blog has been online for longer than a day and Google has already indexed redirects and new URLs, you’ll want to create new redirects that direct old URLs from /blog to new URLs on blog. subdomain.

This is the same process as when transferring to PressProxy, just reversing the URLs.

Update sitemap (Google Search Console)

  • Go to Google Search Console and click Sitemaps in the sidebar.
  • Delete the old sitemaps for /blog.
  • Add new sitemaps for blog. subdomain.

You launched your blog on PressProxy

If you’re abandoning the blog, then there are only two things you need to do:

  • Remove PressProxy DNS records (Cloudflare)
  • Remove PressProxy Workers and API token (Cloudflare)

You can see instructions for these two things above.
